Chess legend Bobby Fischer dead end of an era

Fischer was once arguably the greatest chess mind ever to exist and now he is gone. In his later years his eccentric ways would alienate him from friends and admirers. I will always wonder if Kasparov could have taken Fischer in a game.

David Fekke's Gravatar Bobby Fischer never played Kasparov because he knew he would lose to Garry. Fischer was a miserable human being. After the U.S. was attacked on September 11th he said "the White House and Pentagon have been attacked", he proclaimed "This is all wonderful news."

He also said that a Jewish conspiracy was after him, even though both of his parents were Jewish

Eric Martin's Gravatar Even though the Fisher - Kasperov match is the dream match the world never got to see, the chess world also missed out when Fisher didn't defend his title in '75. A Fisher Karpov match would have been great for the chess world because I think it's pretty well accepted that Karpov was a stronger player than Spasky. Fisher beat Spasky soundly, and Karpov's style was radically different than the attacking style of a Fisher or Kasperov, so on paper it's another great match.
